What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic care was originally introduced in North America by Canadian
Dr. Palmer in 1895. Chiropractic comes from Greek meaning “treatment
by hand”. It is a highly skilled treatment that focuses on the source
of your pain and discomfort.
The bones in your back, called vertebrae, work together in a very specific way. When everything is working well, your spine is strong, flexible and aligned. Through the stresses of daily living, illness, overuse injury or trauma, these vertebra can become misaligned. These shifts out of alignment are referred to as “subluxations”. Even small misalignments of your spine can cause pain, discomfort or decreased range of motion.
Chiropractors focus on relieving this pain, discomfort and decreased
mobility - whether it resides in your back, arms, legs, neck or any
other joint in your body. Dr. Johnson is trained to find the source
of your muscle discomfort, assess your complaint, and make the adjustments
that allow your spine to work properly again. Dr. Johnson’s focus
extends to your overall health and wellness, and may also recommend
changes to your posture, lifestyle or diet and suggest stretches and
exercises in order to pursue your optimal health.
Common Treated Conditions
Low Back Pain
Low back pain is caused by a vulnerable area in your back that is constantly under pressure trying to support your upper body. Wear and tear, poor posture, excess weight and injuries can increase the pressure and cause low back pain.
Neck Pain
Neck pain can be caused by a number of different reasons. Whiplash, stress, posture, and sleeping wrong are just a few. All of these can cause a loss of your natural curve in your neck and cause chronic pain.
Leg Pain (Sciatica)
Sciatica is caused by inflammation of the sciatic nerve, which is the longest nerve in the human body. It runs from your spine down your leg into your foot. An inflamed joint, a bulging disc or inflamed muscle can cause sciatica.
Headaches
Headaches often originate in the spine by vertebrae becoming misaligned. Once your vertebrae become misaligned they can place pressure on nerves and muscles causing pain. Other causes of headaches are poor posture, stress, caffeine, or nutritional deficiencies.
Sports Related Injuries
Athletes put themselves under remarkable stress during their competitions.
This extra stress and exertion on their bodies puts them at even higher
risk for misalignments and damage to their muscles. Through the use
of therapy, exercise s and chiropractic adjustments we can aid in
keeping the athlete playing at their optimum level.
What is an Adjustment?
A
Chiropractic adjustment is a treatment in which Dr. Johnson uses his
hands to apply a very quick, precise and safe amount of pressure directly
on the affected area of your spine or specific joint. This pressure
momentarily separates the joints, allowing a gas bubble to escape
(which may created a popping sound, or cracking noise). This relieves
the pressure on the joint, surrounding nerves and muscles, restoring
normal mobility. An adjustment is not painful, and often provides
immediate relief.
Chiropractors go through years of training and education to be recognized
as Doctors of Chiropractic. Chiropractic adjustments are comfortable,
safe and highly effective. People of all ages can benefit from chiropractic
care. Dr. Johnson takes the time to understand your health situation
and goals in order to determine the individual treatment approach
that is best for you.
